Barbarian (2022) is a horror movie directed by Zach Cregger. The movie deals with a woman who stays in an Airbnb and discovers she is not alone. Below is my Barbarian (2022) movie review

After finding out that she booked the same house as another person, Tess decides to stay with this guy before her interview the next day. The movie started off with the guy being all awkward and quickly turns into a night of drinking wine and having pleasant conversations. After her interview things quickly turn sour. Tess discovers a tunnel in her house with something living at the end of it. This is where it turns into a fight for survival.

However, about 45 min in, the movie very quickly stops and resumes as another story. Obviously these two stories come together at the end. It still was jarring and a bit out of place. This is where we are introduced to Justin Long’s character AJ. He is an a-hole through and through but he is fun to watch. We want to give him a chance and believe his story but he is hard to like. He looks after himself and doiesn’t care for others which also makes him dumb in tense situations.

For the rest of the movie the characters fight to escape and survive. Some scenes are tense, some are violent, and some are just gross. There is a mix of everything here. However, before the middle of the movie, the director had the guts to kill off one of my favorite characters. Lesson is not to get too attached to any of them.

As for the ending, it ends exactly as you would expect it to end. However, how can something like a tall person survive a 4 storey plunge? It did not make sense but you have to play around with cliches so it did not bother me too much. The overall ending was satisfying, but again, just as cookie cutter as one would expect it to be, The story itself is fun and the characters are well written, albeit a bit stupid in tough situations. The pacing is good and the setting is pretty creepy and tense.

DON’T WATCH THE TRAILER AS IT SPOILS WAY TOO MUCH!!
