Cadaver is a 2020 Norwegian film directed and written by Jarand Herdal and starring Gitte Witt, Thomas Gullestad and Thorbjørn Harr. It revolves around an aftermath of a nuclear disaster and a family that gets invited to a theater and a nice dinner, only to find out that many people have disappeared in it. My Cadaver (2020) movie review is below
This is a very short movie and yet not much happens in it. At least not much that would be considered exciting. For 30 min of this movie, NOTHING happens that would be considered fun or exciting. After that, nothing again happiness for another 20 min and maybe one other thing by the end of the movie. Prob is that none of these things are surprising, fun, or in any sense exciting. Watch any post-apocalyptic thriller/horror movie and you will know what the “twist” of this movie is. You can also just look at the title of the movie too.
Also, I would love for somebody to explain to me how a person can get impaled on a hood that is hung up by a swinging chain if this person falls backwards. You can’t do this on a hook that’s set on a metal pole, so how can you do it on a free swinging chain?
On another note, these characters (or the lack of them) are also not interesting. Besides having a daughter, they have zero interesting qualities that would make them fun characters. They are not really smart (argue about their daughter exploring things on her own and get mad when she disappears 10 seconds later because they were talking) and they are definitely not resourceful unless you think hiding in hallways counts as that. They yell, panic, and end up arguing whose fault it was that ended up with them in the hotel. They don’t have any good conversations and we don’t see them overcoming any big obstacles. Also, if you are in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world, why would you trust anybody who says they are organizing a fancy dinner party and not think it is too good to be true?
Again, this movie is very boring. It doesn’t contribute anything new to the overly saturated post apocalyptic genre. The twist is weak and unoriginal, the characters are boring, the “action” is non existent and the overall fun you’ll have will most likely be minimal. If you find parents doing hide and seek in a big hotel exciting, this is a great movie for you. Only two semi-fun scenes happen in 1 hour (again 90 min movie). The heroine, if you can call her that, didn’t become brave, didn’t learn a lesson, didn’t change in any way. She runs around, gets caught, escapes, makes a speech and magically gets reunited with a lost member of the family. Wow, edge of the seat movie.
Again, a standard thriller movie with zero thrills ends up being a wasted effort. It had potential at the beginning of the movie but it never ran in any promising direction. Rather, it preferred to take a more safe, cliche and well established direction. The scenes in the hotel are bright and colorful which contradicts the gloomy world these characters are used to. They end up learning that paradise is a false mirage which is not original but a good message.
