Fall (2022) is a thriller movie about two women stuck on a 2,000 foot radio tower. It is directed by Scott Mann and stars Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner. Below is my Fall (2022) movie review

After suffering a tragic loss of her husband Dan, a woman goes into a spiral and finds it hard to move on. Her friend Hunter recommends she take a dive and climb up a 2,000 to get over her fear and move on. After much hesitation she agrees and the initial climb begins. I feel like they should have both brought food and water as well as let their friends know they are climbing a giant tower. Of course one of them is an influencer that relies on help from her 60,000 fans.

Things turn south when they start the descent which gets them stuck on top of the tower. For the film, the filmmakers made a real 100 foot tower. It was placed on a mountain so it appears the crew is a lot higher off the ground than they were. A lot of the scenes were well made where the height is represented well. The audience (especially those with fear of heights) really get that height anxiety at full display here. The fear could also explain why the characters are not thinking clearly all the time.

At one point in the movie some attempts were made to get help. At this point the movie starts to drop some hints that things are not as good as they appear. One of the characters does few things that foretell the twist ending. It is very subtle so the last 45 min are crucial in picking it up. Don’t expect it to be overly original but it is not necessarily bad.

When the girls get stuck on the tower, they keep reassuring each other. They also talk to each other to keep them from freaking out. This is crucial as their situation is clearly hopeless. The dialogue is mundane and not overly interesting but it gets the point across just fine. The action is limited so the movie relies heavily on dialogue. Not particularly great but again, serves the story fine. The two characters have good chemistry so these scenes are good enough to keep the story going.

However, them being climbers, one would assume they would attempt a few more things to get down before giving up. Also, they were not prepared at all for the trek. Besides water for both of them and enough food, they failed to look at weather or even check cell phone coverage before climbing it. Also, one of the girls going through a tough time is climbing a tower after depression and alcoholism took hold of her for a year? Yeah, this makes no sense. Her friend is not as good a friend as one expects as she shakes the tower to scare her friend and also forces her to go way beyond her comfort level  – even if it is extremely dangerous.

Finally, if you see cracks, rust, and overall wonky and old metal on a 2,000 foot tower, why would you think it is a good idea to climb it?
