On this one particular night, we have an ensemble of characters from different regions that find themselves in a sticky situation. This includes a French Assassin, bank robbers Waikiki and Honolulu, arms dealer named Acapulco, as well as a cop. All of these characters are in the care of the Nurse. She had a troubled life that she is not able to let go. She is a fun no questions asked character who helps out the criminals coming to her. However, she also has some rules that she tries to uphold to keep things working in an orderly fashion. This complements the world outside that is completely destroyed by riots.

A good portion of this movie is dedicated to the characters above interacting with each other and jabbing at each other. They all as seem to be obnoxious in a way and full of themselves. Some are aso not truthful and are concealing their true intentions, which is expected among criminals. Besides conversing, these characters don’t do much for most of the movie. Once the other group of criminals is introduced, then everybody starts to scramble away and find a way to get out before it is too late. These characters are not boring, but they don’t do much but talk.

Towards the end of the movie, we are introduced to a group of criminals and things get more exciting. However, in the movie we have Dave Bautista who is built like a tank, but the movie doesn’t show him kicking much ass. He looks intimidating and as soon as he is about to mow bad guys down, the camera cuts away and comes back to the carnage he is responsible for. This might be a limitation of the movie being PG-13 but a lot of movies with this rating show a lot of graphic stuff that could have worked for this movie.

Overall the movie is fun but don’t expect too much from it. Some concepts that are introduced in the movie such as the riots are never explored. The backstory for the Nurse was ok, but not developed or introduced in a right way. The only reason this movie works is because casts play off each other well.

The cinematography and the whole hotel setting has this old school feel to it. It looks both modern and old at the same time. The movie is set in a not too distant future with lots of neat futuristic tech scattered around. On top of this, the violence, while limited, is cool and exciting. I can’t help but feel a little let down there wasn’t much of it on screen. The gang they introduced at the end is supposed to be very violent and feared and it is played off almost as a silly but serious over the top movie gang.
