There are a lot of good things about this movie. It has some solid acting, great cinematography (lots of shots of space that look great IMO), and some neat effects when it comes to space destruction. The characters floating around were convincing enough and the violence was surprisingly gory (the shots with blood flying around in zero g are awesome. The creature itself was done well and it looked really nice and unique when it was attacking people and squeezing itself through any crevice it encounters. Life (2017) movie review

When it comes to bad things, there are few but they don’t ruin the movie by any means. For one, I didn’t care much about the people on the station and their background as well as their families. They were good people so that is good enough for me. While minimal, I didn’t like the romance angle of the characters. Also, some of the actions that characters took were not ideal or smart but I can’t talk about it without spoiling the movie. The last thing I didn’t like was that the movie itself felt longer than it should be. It never felt slow per se but It did feel like it took its time to ramp up.

While the acting is good, there were a bunch of inconsistencies in it. The people on the station don’t act as professionals would. They constantly make dumb moves and put others at risk. They also break rules, which, combined with them not having much of a personality, makes you in a sense hate them. As many people have mentioned, this movie is inspired by the “Alien” movie.  In that movie the scene that sticks a lot with movie goers is the sitting around and talking scene as we get to see good fleshed out characters who are unique and actually have a personality worth caring about. It shows that even simple scenes can play a huge importance in the audience’s enjoyment of the movie.

While the movie is trying to be something new, we have already seen this type of movie before. Once the creature is introduced, the audience knows what it will do so the only question is when it will do it. However, this doesn’t hurt the movie as much as many people think. It is well done, acted, edited, as well as shot to create a sense of dread and suspense. There were a couple of really intense scenes and a decent PLOT TWIST at the end. Not that it was hugely unique but it certainly elevated the movie to something memorable. Plus the alien itself looks like a cross between a plan and a creature which is also unique. Overall a good experience and definitely one to put on my rewatch list.

Don’t look at reviews as a lot of the ones I saw spoil the movie.
