Loop Track is a 2023 thriller movie directed by Thomas Sainsbury. It deals with a socially awkward man who goes on a hike only to be stalked by a big creature. Below is my Loop Track (2023) movie review

Loop Track (2023) movie poster

Where do I start with this movie? Well I guess I can start by saying this movie is about 95 min long, including credits. It takes a LOOOONG time for something interesting to happen. Basically you get around 70 minutes of people hiking, talking, finding a hut in a forest, and then continuing to hike. During this time there Ian (the socially awkward guy) keeps telling us he thinks something is following him and the group he finds in the forest. They shrug it off and move on.

This movie could have included a few creepy scenes. These scenes could have given the audience a taste of what is out there. Seeing a quiet guy yell about something being out there and nobody believing is not fun. It gets boring real quick. And that is basically what this movie is. It deals with people hiking, creepy music builds up, and they move on. There are some arguments/accusations here and there, but there is not much in terms of creature action. Besides these scenes, wait until you hear when the creature shows up.

The movie is 90 min long and we finally get a scene of the creature at the 65 MIN mark. Are you freaking kidding me? The trailer seems to have lied to us. And even when the creature is featured, we see a portion of it. You have to wait a bit longer to see the whole thing. Also, when you do see the whole thing, it gets taken down pretty easily. Almost laughable the way a shy guy takes down such a creature. In a lot of ways it reminded me of a guy wrestling a fat water hose.

Anyway, when we see the creature, there is something very familiar about it. It resembles a certain bird that is native to Australia. It is just bigger. There are a lot of things that could have been done with it. Zooming in down the road without showing much does not create a tense atmosphere. It is also pointless if one person freaks about being followed while everybody else shrugs it off. It could have been good if we were shown or hinted at what is out there.

This movie is basically about hiking. At the very end, the director chose to include a hint of horror. It almost seems like the creature was included at the last minute. In a movie that is 90 min long, we see the creature for a few min and it was not enough. It is not enough because I was bored by that point and those few minutes were not enough. Oh, did I mention that only ONE person was killed on screen? Yeah, not enough IMO.
