Devil Next Door – this is a documentary on John Demjanjuk, a Celeveland grandfather who is brought to trial in Israel and accused of being a Nazi extermination camping ground known as Ivan the Terrible.
This is a really hard documentary to watch. It skips between lawyers, neighbors, John, family members, and witnesses in Israel who testified again Demjanjuk. A lot of them are tearful in their confessions. The judge is trying to balance between justice and bringing to light horrible events his people went through. It deals with some conspiracies and a lot of bias that takes time to prove as well as correct. A highly emotional documentary and well presented with interviews from many key players. It will constantly keep you guessing whether Demjanjuk really is guilty or not.
The pharmacist – The show is about a small-town pharmacist Dan Schneider, who, after losing his son in a drug-related shooting, embarks on a crusade to bring a reckoning against the powerful figures behind the nation’s devastating opioid epidemic. This focuses primarily on the Oxycontin epidemic.
This one is one of the most emotional documentaries I have ever seen. Dan is such a great guy that constantly cries about his son’s death. He is constantly praying to God for guidance. Dan is simply relentless in his effort to make his community, and his country, a better place to live. However, he encounters a lot of opposition and threats from those he aims to expose.
This one has a lot of home movies of the family, recorded phone calls, as well as interviews with lawyers, and users. It even has government officials that were involved with Dan and his fight to regulate and expose the people responsible for the opioid crisis. It also has interviews with a Oxycontin rep who gives more insight on how Purdue pharmaceuticals think and how the drug is not made for people with pain but rather those who get hooked on it.
The ending is emotional as well as devastating. It asks the question on how can we prevent an opioid crisis if getting rid of one problem creates a chain reaction that results in another crisis? Again, hats off to Dan. His interview and his crying destroyed me.
Evil Genius – a pizza delivery man with collar bomb attempts to rob a bank. This one has a lot of twists and turns. A lot of people had a tough time turning it off as a result of that. Mystery of who the true mastermind behind it as a lot of people seemed to have a hand in it. However, the police in this case were pretty much useless.
Thanks for reading my Netflix TV shows I have enjoyed (2019 – ??)
