No One Gets Out Alive (2021) is a horror movie directed by Santiago Menghini. It is about a young immigrant woman who accepts logging at a creepy house and quickly finds out she can’t escape it. Below is my quick No One Gets Out Alive (2021) movie review

When we are introduced to Amber (Cristina Rodlo), she is a struggling woman who is in pursuit of the American Dream. She finds a rundown apartment and soon finds out that it is not as safe as she thought. Amber starts to see weird figures and ghostly apparitions as she starts working a new job. She works hard but she does not have many people to turn to for help. As she is undocumented, she fears police and deprtation.

While going through a tough time at work and trying to buy papers, Amber becomes very frustrated. At home she finds out that her hosts are not as innocent as they seem, which makes her even more on edge. The story quickly becomes one of survival. It seems like everything clashes together as Amber tries to figure out what her next move is. Having limited options, the movie turns into a fight to escape.

The ghostly figures represented in the movie are really creepy. They don’t go much but the glowing eyes give them quite a creepy look. The sounds and overall soundtrack is done well. We hear scattered sounds throughout the house that evokes uneasiness. There are limited jumpscares but there are some that are cliche. The director plays more around with visuals where the eerie figures are present in the background rather than jump at those around them.

The ending of the movie (without spoilers) is a bit of a mixed bag. While we knew something big was at work, the reveal was…unexpected. To a horror fan like me, it was unexpected in a good way. To a regular movie fan, it might be a bit too big, even stupid. The CGI was well done but it is its presence that is jarring.

Anyway, the movie is short and well made. It has a bunch of creepy scenes and it also has some social commentary on immigrants and their struggles. The latter is present but not shoved down our throat. On top of that the acting is done well and the characters are good and overall likable.
