Run (2020) is a mystery thriller movie directed by Aneeish Chaganty. It stars Sarah Paulson as Mother and Kiera Allan as daughter. It revolves around a woman who finds out her mother is harboring a dark secret. Below is my short Run (2020) movie review

On top of it all, this movie doesn’t have a very original premise. The whole premise of family members not being who they portray to be is very played out and seldom original. With that in mind, this movie has the main character in a wheelchair which makes it more unique as her mobility is very limited. She is also intelligent which makes her think of ways to outsmart her mother and not raise any big red flags. While not too original, the whole cat and mouse game has some good thrills.

Paulson usually gives a solid performance and this movie is no exception. She is emotional and can be intimidating by being stoic and cold. She is also smart as she seems to have cover for any question raised by her daughter. Allan also gives a good performance as she drags herself around and tries to cover her tracks. She is cunning and doesn’t show her suspicions to make her mother angry. By the end she grows more confident in her actions and takes matters in her own hands.
In terms of thrills, there were some. The daughter tries her best to find out more about her mother by asking random strangers for help. Since she is homeschooled she has a very limited friend circle so she has to think on her feet quickly. However, sometimes she is caught by her mother which strains their relationship and plants more seeds of mistrust. The rest, as mentioned, is just daughter against mother and one calling the other out to be truthful. The daughter keeps finding more stuff that her mother lied to her about and it keeps going like that till the end.
Overall the movie is solid. It has some decent thrills and some good acting by the leads. They both do a good job in going against each other until it all boils over at the end. The story is cliche but the characters are solid. The movie is Hulu (US) exclusive.
