Sorority Row is a (2009) directed by Stewart Handler. After a prank gone wrong, sorority row try to cover their sister’s death. Not long after they start dying one by one.  Below is my Sorority Row (2009) movie review

After the death of their sister the sorority tries to cover it up by ignoring it. They also pledge to not talk about it, but it eventually reveals itself. They start going against each other and suspecting each other of being a killer. This keeps escalating until it all boils over during a big party they plan on hosting.

The characters themselves are really bland and really forgettable. While a lot of them are good looking, they have the personality of a wet napkin. They act bitchy against each other and others, making them really unlikable. That is also the point as they are not supposed to be really likable. However, if you don’t have a likable character, you don’t have anybody that the audience can relate to or root for. If anything, the audience wants to see them get killed in brutal ways.

Speaking of violence, the kills are decent. Some are very graphic and uncomfortable to watch, such as the bottle death. You can usually tell who will die and who will survive based on how they act towards those around them. There is also some nudity but not enough IMO. The main characters didn’t want to do nudity so there were extras that did it in the background. One of the actresses didn’t see the point of being naked as it didn’t drive the plot forward. She refused to do it while another felt like her breasts were flat so she also refused to go nude. This is such a weird excuse as most people expect it to be a lot of nudity in a horror movie dealing with a sorority.

A lot of people compared this movie with “Black Christmas” as well as I Know “What You Did Last Summer”. While there are a lot of similarities with those movies, this movie tried to stand on its own. However, I don’t think it succeeded. It did not set itself apart because it didn’t do enough things that were different to countless slashers in the past. It didn’t bring enough nudity, the killer is really bland, and the kills were not unique enough to set itself apart.

However, with that said, this movie can also be seen as a throwback to 80s slashers. The characters are two dimensional and have no motivation to do anything. Their background is either not revealed or was as boring as they get. This can be seen as part of the charm as we are not supposed to connect with them. They are there to get killed and that happens plenty of times. Your enjoyment of this movie will depend on how big of a fan you are of slashers. You might see it as a ripoff or cliche or a throwback to old slashers.
