Superhost (2023) is a horror comedy directed by Brandon Christensen. It deals with two vloggers who get a rental with a host that would do anything for a good review. Below is my Superhost (2023) movie review

Superhost (2023) movie poster

When the movie starts we meet Teddy and Claire, a couple of vloggers who are losing subscription numbers and need to find a way to get more viewer engagement. As they take many takes with multiple enthusiasm levels they soon find themselves face to face with a host of their rental. She is odd but very enthusiastic. They chalk it up to her being eccentric and move on. Soon enough things go south.

It does not take long before the couple realizes that there might be something wrong with their host. She always seems to be around, has a ton of cameras all over the house, and even becomes very intense at a snap of the fingers. This makes them start to question their superhost.

For the rest of the movie, the two keep uncovering new things about their host and by the end all shit hits the fan. The superhost, played by Gracie Gillam, does a great job being all smiley one minute and cackling like crazy the next. She plays it so well that it is hard to read her. By the end, the facade comes off and she becomes almost unrecognizable. This is quite a startling thing to witness as she used to be a star on Disney Channel.

The problem is we have Teddy and Claire who are very unlikable. Their sole focus is to grow their viewership and we get a shell of actual humans to root for. Not to be that guy but I was rooting for Rebecca (superhost) the entire time. It does not help that there is a very limited number of people in this movie. However, as I siad before, if we can’t root for main characters, who can we root for?

This is a short movie that is not by any means original. The superhost is fun, although sometimes cartoonish, while the main characters are typical vloggers that are annoying and unlikable. The male character is also kind of spineless but not to the point where he will ruin the movie.

Thanks for reading my Superhost (2023) movie review
