They Look Like People is a 2015 psychological horror movie written/edited/and directed by Perry Blackshear, It is a simple story of a troubled man who suspects creatures are taking over humans and he is involved in protecting his best friend. Below is my short They Look Like People (2015) movie review
This movie is REALLY boring. Most of it is spent in drinking, awkwardly talking, awkwardly acting, and awkwardly presenting friendship between two friends Wyatt (MacLeod Andrews) and Christian (Evan Dumouchel). They don’t do anything fun in this movie (hence the super short 1h 20min). Both play some games to recapture that childhood nostalgia and reminisce about the good times. They also both reflecting on their current situation and how things have turned out. Below you will find two pictures from the movie. One is of eyes going all white with a big smile spreading across a woman’s face. The other is of two friends sitting together and discussing boring shit. Don’t expect anything else to happen.
You will have a lot of questions by the end of the movie and most will not be answered. Some people like that, including me, but when nothing is explained, I just leave being extremely disappointed. There were few somewhat tense/disturbing moments but they are short and not memorable. Think of it as you sleeping in bed and seeing a shadow by the door and then you decide to turn around and sleep on the colder side of the pillow. Exciting Doesn’t even begin to explain it.
The movie is extremely cheap with most of it happening in an apartment, on a roof, and in the basement. Few scenes here and there were in a corporate building (trust me, some intense scenes happen here. They involve talking and being awkward). The scary scenes, if you can call them that, are so few and rely HEAVILY on suspenseful music that it doesn’t seem worth a watch.
The editing is terrible (listen to music fading out), the dialogue is OK but not even close to great, the acting is not terrible but a small notch above it, and the story is boring. I know there is a deeper message of mental illness in the movie but it was not presented that well. I have no idea why there are so many great movie reviews for this movie. Perhaps I am biased or wrong in my assumption but this movie is more of a sleeping pill than a movie that is painting a strong message about health issues. It didn’t work for me but perhaps it will for you.
