Vivarium (2019) is a movie that has no point. Nothing happens in it, no action, one creepy scene, one trippy scene towards the end and a whole bunch of nothing in between. This makes the movie boring, pointless and lacking any memorable scenes. See my Vivarium (2019) movie review below

So we have a couple who goes on to see a house in a neighborhood where every house is the same. There is no people anywhere to be found. From the introduction of what is supposed to be a very creepy leasing agent, the couple exits the “tour” and fond themselves driving in a circle with no exit. That is all that happens in the entire movie.
The rest of the movie is filled with a man digging a hole, a woman losing her grip with reality and her husband, as well as a creepy child who screams his head off and has only one objective – be as creepy as humanly possible. These three things happen happen for about 90% of the movie. Are you excited to see it? Of course you are. Who wouldn’t be?
The movie is another submission into a overused category concerning creepy kids and parents trying their best to love the odd child despite their obvious their belief that the child is obviously a little too weird. The kid in the movie doesn’t do anything but speak in deep voice and again, act creepy. Just think of him as an alien or a robot that is trying to act normal and human. He doesn’t know a single social que on how one acts normal. I get it, he is creepy. Make him do something surprising so I can be entertained.
Despite my objection the movie ends on a weird trippy note that is nowhere close to being worth the ride. Nothing interesting happens throughout the movie. Yes, the two main characters are quirky and lovable but nothing happens to them to make me like the movie. It is bland and forgettable. You got a couple stick in a world where everything is the same. You can make a ton of things creepy but you chose to show them eating breakfast ten times and having sex for some reason (seriously, it’s so random).
Besides acting I don’t know if this movie has any redeeming characteristics. The story sucks, the duo logic is just ok, the cinematography also sucks (showing 20 shots of houses looking the same is not fun or interesting) and the descent into madness is boring as all hell. I don’t recommend this to anybody.
Thanks for reading my Vivarium (2019) movie review
FYI, there is only one scene that was creepy and that was the “frog” throat scene.
